POWERTRIP-8 QUICK START OWNERS MANUAL
(ENGLISH)
The Alesis POWERTRIP-8 is the ideal power control unit for any rack-
mount system. Install the POWERTRIP-8 in the top of your rack and use
the eight switched AC outlets on the rear panel to power all of your
equipment, up to a full 15-amp load. The line voltage monitor displays
incoming voltage, and the two slide-out, swiveling light fixtures provide
illumination of your gear, adjustable via the front-panel dimmer control.
VOLTAGE METER & POWER CONDITIONER
The POWERTRIP-8 protects your delicate electronic equipment with a high-
voltage surge and transient suppressor and an RFI/EMI interference filter. The
fast-acting suppression circuit responds in less than a nanosecond, clamping
transient voltages to safe levels. The filter works to prevent noise from
fluorescent lights, certain dimmers, radio transmitters, and similar sources of
“electronic pollution” from entering the AC line, and, from there, leaking into
sensitive audio, video, or computer circuits.
OUTLETS
The POWERTRIP-8 has eight AC outlets located on its rear panel, controlled by
a front panel master switch which glows when the power is on. The circuit
breaker-protected outlets are rated at 15 amps, which is equivalent to 1800 watts
at 120 volts. If the total load on the POWERTRIP-8 (combining all outlets)
exceeds 15 amps, the front-panel circuit breaker will trip, cutting off power to your
rack. If this happens, reduce the load by unplugging one or more units from the
POWERTRIP-8. Then push the circuit breaker button in to reset it.
PULL-OUT RACK LIGHTS
The POWERTRIP-8’s lamps are easy to pull out and aim. A switch on the left
side of the front panel turns them on and off, and the brightness is adjusted by
the nearby dimmer control. 7-watt bulbs are supplied, but bulbs of a different
rating may be used. Be careful, as higher wattage means higher heat output. At
the 7-watt rating, the caps and light tubes become quite warm to the touch. So at
a higher wattage, the temperature could increase beyond a comfortable level. If
you find that the heat from the tubes is excessive, try reducing the setting of the
dimmer knob. Alternatively, you may wish to substitute 4-watt bulbs.
The bulbs are easily replaced by unscrewing the cap on the end of each light
tube. Note: to avoid burning your fingers, allow the cap to cool completely before
unscrewing it. Also, be careful not to push the tubes in too far while the caps are
unscrewed! They may be difficult to pull back out.
Note: the lights do not turn off automatically when the tubes are pushed in, so be
sure to turn them off with the switch when they are not needed.
